SUNY Downstate Medical Center Signs Multi-Suite Contract with Lawson Software

Lawson applications will help centralize and automate University Hospital of Brooklyn's materials management processes while enhancing financial and human resources reporting

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2007--Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced that SUNY Downstate Medical Center has licensed the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management software suites. The Lawson applications will help the medical center increase operational efficiencies by automating financial and supply chain processes, providing an integrated business system and increasing visibility into key data across its departments. The contract was signed during Lawson's fourth quarter of fiscal 2007, which ended May 31, 2007.
SUNY Downstate is one of the nation's leading urban academic medical centers. It comprises a College of Medicine, College of Health Related Professions, College of Nursing, School of Graduate Studies and University Hospital of Brooklyn. SUNY Downstate's 4,800 employees serve a population of more than 2.3 million.

With expanding services, SUNY Downstate selected Lawson to replace several older business systems to improve operational efficiencies. The academic medical center also sought a business system that offered enhanced flexibility and scalability to support its long-term growth.

"The unified system will give medical center management greater control over business processes, such as budget forecasting and cost planning," said Frederick J. Hammond, Jr., senior vice president and chief financial officer at SUNY Downstate. "It also offers an intuitive user interface, so medical center employees can quickly access and share key information across departments, such as purchase order data."

"Lawson will help us reduce administrative costs by driving better-informed decision-making and business process improvements throughout our university hospital and colleges on our campus," added Bert Robles, chief information officer for SUNY Downstate.

The Lawson applications will centralize and automate the medical center's materials management processes while enhancing its financial and human resources reporting capabilities. The enhanced human resources capabilities will provide employees with direct access to pay details using Lawson Employee & Manager Self-Service. Overall, the Lawson applications will help minimize time spent on administrative tasks, reducing costs and improving efficiencies.

SUNY Downstate expects to complete the rollout by January 2009."Medical centers require applications that support their complex business operations and provide visibility into their business processes," said Sara Van Kempen, healthcare marketing director, Lawson Software. "Lawson provides a flexible system that will grow with the center and help better position SUNY Downstate to meet its long-term business objectives."
