Community Medical Centers Signs Multi-Suite Lawson Software Contract
Health system selects Lawson for its healthcare-specific functionality and simpler approach to IT management and worker productivity
ST. PAUL, Minn., Jun 23, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) today announced that Community Medical Centers licensed Lawson Smart Office and the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Intelligence Suites. Lawson made the announcement in conjunction with its participation in the 2008 HFMA Healthcare Finance Conference taking place this week in Las Vegas. The healthcare provider will use the Lawson system to help consolidate business processes, simplify IT management and increase worker productivity.
Community Medical Centers is a 727-bed not-for-profit health system with 6,000 employees in California's San Joaquin Valley. It operates three acute care hospitals, including the Community Regional Medical Center, Clovis Community Medical Center and Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital. The health system also serves patients through several long-term care and outpatient centers.
Community Medical Centers currently relies on multiple business applications to meet its administrative needs across the human resources, financial and materials management departments. The organization chose Lawson as a part of an internal strategic initiative to consolidate disparate software systems while providing the best support for the organization's evolving technology and business needs.
We were impressed with how Lawson designs its applications with the specific needs of healthcare providers in mind, said Tim Brown, director of business systems, Community Medical Centers. Unlike the other vendors that required us to develop workarounds to make their software fit our specific needs, Lawson provides the features and capabilities we need to help us run an efficient healthcare organization.
Community Medical Centers will be among the first Lawson customers to implement Lawson Smart Office, an intuitive, personalized information workplace that offers new collaboration features, integration of Microsoft Office user productivity tools and optional workflow and business intelligence capabilities. Smart Office will be implemented for select employees using the various Lawson applications within Community Medical Centers. Smart Office is designed to help increase productivity among staff members who regularly need to extract, edit and upload information to the core ERP system. With Smart Office, employees will be able to work with ERP data in the application that is most comfortable for them - such as Microsoft Excel - and have that data automatically updated pervasively in the core ERP system.
Community Medical Centers will also deploy Lawson Performance Management for Healthcare to help manage employee performance evaluations and more easily comply with requirements mandated by the Joint Commission. Currently, Community Medical Centers relies on a manual process to conduct reviews. With Lawson Performance Management for Healthcare, the organization will be able to move much of its employee performance management process online, helping to improve the accuracy of performance reviews and save time for employees and their managers.
Hospitals need integrated, healthcare-specific business systems that are simple to use and maintain, said Stacey Hicks, healthcare marketing director, Lawson Software. Lawson helps healthcare providers reduce operational costs with a unified business system and provides productivity improvements based on a simplified user interface and automated processes.
Lawson serves more than 500 healthcare industry customers representing more than 4,500 facilities, including eight of the top 10 integrated delivery networks. The company also serves managed care systems, academic medical centers, hospitals, clinics, physician group practices, home healthcare, long-term care and other health services enterprises. Lawson solutions help healthcare organizations manage their business so they can focus on their patients, automate and streamline materials management for a better bottom line, and overcome the challenges of the labor shortage.
