Foodcap International, based in Parnell, Auckland supply retail ready meat to supermarkets from a central production facility, as opposed to retail meat being produced in the supermarket butchery department. The business success is based around the packaging of the meat for transport in a special material called the “Foodcap” which has been designed and patented worldwide by the company’s founder and MD Roger Palmer.

Their business model requires that individual supermarket demand is accurately forecasted to enable production planning; production execution is accurate with a focus on yield from raw materials; and packing and distribution to supermarkets is efficient and agile as actual store demand is met within aggressive delivery timeframes. The production facility is highly automated with robotic warehousing cranes, automated production and a fully automated conveyor and buffer chiller carousel system which feeds a weigh / labelling machine and sorter for the finished meat trays to be packed into supermarket orders.
